The Soil Analyses Service Center (SASC) is part of the Kansas Biological Survey & Center for Ecological Research and aims to expand capacity for ecological, environmental, and biogeochemical research at the University of Kansas. The developing facility contains instrumentation and sample processing equipment for the analysis of total carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) in soil and plant material.

The service center also contains instrumentation to analyze nitrate-N (NO3 -N), nitrite-N (NO2-N), ammonium-N (NH4-N), and ortho-phosphate (PO4-P) in water and soil extracts. This service center is intended to serve as a research and learning resource for students and investigators at KU by providing resources for sample processing and training to determine nutrient concentrations in environmental samples. Analytical services are also available to non-KU researchers, but samples must be processed and prepared for analysis by external researchers.
